The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.  

Darcy Cormack, Assistant Superintendent, and Jeremy Bender, Team Leader, made a presentation to the Board on the Universal School Nutrition Program in LRSD.  

The Board approved the issuing of a promissory note to finance capital projects. 

The Chair facilitated a conversation regarding school fundraising.  

Superintendent Michalik and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) provided updates to capital projects:   

• École Sage Creek/Bonavista is on track for opening in September 2025.   
• Island Lakes Community School will have two modular classrooms ready for occupancy by the end of October, and two more are in transit from École St Germain.   
• The modernization and addition of J.H. Bruns Collegiate is our top priority for provincial government funding.   

Superintendent Michalik and Assistant Superintendent Anderson shared the Policy Roadmap for the 2024-2025 school year.   

Policies GCKA- Reassignment/Transfer of Teachers and Policy GCKB- Transfer of Administrators were rescinded effective immediately as the provincial collective agreement addresses in detail the topics they cover.

Policy GCQF/GDQD: Progressive Discipline Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff and Administrative Protocol supporting Policy GCQF/GDQD received first reading. 

Policy BGEF/JICJ: Use of Cell Phones in Schools received second reading.  

Bylaw 20242025-110 to authorize the instruction of religion at École Van Belleghem for the 2024-2025 school year received second reading and will be brought back for third reading at a future date.  

The Board passed a motion to reschedule the regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, due to a scheduling conflict, to Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, and include the special board meeting in the regular meeting.  

The Chair adjourned the meeting at 8:28 p.m. Official minutes will be posted once approved by the Board.
