I Read Canadian Day / La Journée des livres canadiens pour moi 2024
I READ CANADIAN DAY/LA JOURNÉE DES LIVRES CANADIENS POUR MOI is a national day of celebration dedicated to reading books by Canadian authors, illustrators, and publishers. The purpose of this annual event is to raise awareness of Canadian books and appreciate the “richness, diversity and breadth” of Canadian literature.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, readers of all ages, from all over Canada, are encouraged to spend 15 minutes reading, sharing or listening to a Canadian book of their choice. Reading “Canadian” can take place anywhere there is access to great Canadian books – including home, school, or your local school or public library. With so many great books to choose from, reading “Canadian” is easier than ever. Board books, picture books, fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels are available in print, audio and digital formats (SORA) in English, French, Indigenous languages, and many other language options around the world.
Need a great Canadian read aloud this week or all year round? Our LRSD school libraries have you covered. Be sure to check out the exceptional literature created by Canadians, including these popular Manitoban authors and illustrators for children and teens – Maureen Fergus, Wab Kinew, Jon Klassen, Colleen Nelson, David Alexander Robertson, Tasha Spillett, Linda Trinh, Katherena Vermette, and Larry Verstraete.
